Why Students Don’t Like Writing Assignments

Writing assignments are a staple for many English classes, as well as other classes, from grade school all the way up through college and beyond. It is important that students learn how to express themselves competently with the written word; however many students abhor such assignments. The following are reasons why students don’t like writing assignments.
They take a long time
Many students find that it takes them a long time to do writing assignments. Whereas they might be able to guess with other assignments (multiple choice) or breeze through them, it may take them a while to put together the words in a way that will express what they want to say and sound good at the same time. In addition, many times there will need to be research or other work before they can even begin writing their assignment. They may dislike anything that takes a lot of time away from activities that they may prefer to do, such as hanging out with their friends.
They may find it difficult
Many students find it difficult to do writing assignments. They may have trouble expressing themselves. For this very reason, it is important that they have such assignments, for they may get better with experience. Many people will need to write things for their jobs, and it is a very powerful skill. Some people even choose to make it a career. However, when they are in school and having difficulty with it, it might not seem like fun.
They may not know the correct rules of grammar
They may be frustrated because they feel that they do not know the different rules. They may be worried that they will receive a bad grade because they are not doing it correctly. There are many nuances in grammar, and writing is not something that can be learned in an afternoon like a math principle. Even students who have taken English class after English class throughout their schooling will still find that they miss specific rules when it comes to writing and grammar. They can study the different rules, and then they will be better at doing them in the future.
Many students dislike writing assignments; however their value is undeniable. If a student seems to have a lot of difficulty with such assignments, you may want to take him or her aside to work with him or her to help solve the problem.
