When you look at your wedding pictures, one thing that will stand out are the bridesmaid dresses that the ladies next to you are wearing. You will want to take a lot of care when choosing these dresses. Consider the following factors.
Their price
In many weddings, the bride does not pay for the bridesmaid dresses, but instead each individual bridesmaid does. Unless you are planning on paying for them, you should be aware of what your bridesmaids can afford. These can be expensive, with many of them well over $100. This amount might be expected, but if you suddenly come back with a $500 choice, then this might simply be too much for most bridesmaids. Also, make sure to consider other costs the bridesmaids might have like shoes, getting their hair done, jewelry, etc. You want to get bridesmaid dresses that are not so far from the norm unless you have the money or know that they do. Also consider the cost of alterations.
What look are you going for?
Different bridesmaid dresses portray different styles, which might then be reflected by the wedding as a whole. For instance, someone who wants a very traditional wedding might get more traditional looking long bridesmaid dresses. Someone who wants something edgier might get something more casual or unusual.
How will it compliment your dress?
Many brides imagine how their bridal pictures and wedding will look when deciding on the bridesmaid dresses. They might not want certain colors such as white, which will make them stand out less, or black, which can send the wrong message for a lot of brides. They might not want something bright like a fire engine red that will detract from them. Think of the colors you like.
How will it fit on the different bridesmaids?
If all of your bridesmaids are fit, then you will not have to worry, but in many circumstances you will have a variety of body types in your party. Certain styles are more flattering than others on certain people. You can talk to the people at the store about the styles that that would go with the particular people who will be wearing them.
You have choices
Gone are the days when many felt compelled to have every bridesmaid wear the exact same thing. Of course, you can do this, but others choose to pick a designer and a color and then let the bridesmaids pick out any style. Some will have all the same style but vary colors. Others will just specific a type of dress (i..e pink short dress with spaghetti straps). There is no right and wrong – it is up to you.
When it comes down to it, you are probably going to look for something attractive that will look good next to you. It may be helpful to bring one, several or all of your bridesmaid with you when looking for the dresses. Otherwise consider the above tips when considering which one to select.
