Halloween costumes can be very expensive, but there are ways that you can save a lot of money. Consider the following methods to help you save on these seasonal items.
Purchase the costumes from a discount source
You can save a lot of money by purchasing from a discount store. For instance, Costco sells a lot of Halloween costumes for much less than you would purchase at a typical store. Price compare between different stores. They only make a limited amount of Halloween costumes and sometimes you can find the exact same costume for much less at a cheaper source.
Consider buying a pre-owned costume
A lot of kids wear a Halloween costume once and then do not fit in it the next year or want something different. You can save a lot of money by purchasing a pre-owned item. You will find many of these online at sources such as www.ebay.com. You will also often find them at children’s consignment stores. If you belong to a group like a mother’s group, then you can have a costume swap or sell them to each other for very reasonable prices.
Make the costume yourself
You can save a significant amount of money by making the Halloween costume yourself. You may be able to take some old clothes and spend nothing to make the Halloween costume. If you know how to sew, then you can make something elaborate. No matter what you make it will usually be cheaper than buying the same thing that is commercially made. You also might be able to make something of higher quality that will last longer and this can save you money too.

You will find many online sources that sell Halloween costumes. These are often the exact same costumes that you would get from the stores.
Look for sales
Just like other items, Halloween costumes can go on sale. This will often happen as the holiday approaches.
Buy a year ahead on clearance
Some stores like Target will clearance out their items after the holidays. You might be able to save a lot of money this way. Target will even sometime clearance them down to 90% off. The problem is that you need to know a year in advance what they might like to wear. Still if you can get it so cheaply it might be worth a try.
