A sofa is often the centerpiece of a room. It can be part of your home for years, so it is important to choose the one that is right for you. The following are tips for selecting a sofa.
Decide on a budget
The first thing you will want to decide on is how much you want to spend whether it is a few hundred, or a few thousand.
Decide on a basic size/shape
Couches come in all shapes and sizes. You will probably want to measure the exact space instead of guessing because things are often bigger or smaller than they appear and you do not want to have a problem. Remember to consider the extra room you will need such as room for people to walk around without obstacles, doors to open, etc. Also, think about the shape. You can get a straight sofa or something large such as a sectional.
Consider extra features
You will have far more choices than your average seating for three. You can get a sofa with recliners on the outer chairs. You can get one that has built-in storage or cup holders. Some have a nice chaise area. Some are sleeper sofas. Sectionals can also provide interesting decorating options. Think about what features your consider essential and what would be nice options for your couch.
Consider the material
Sofas are made from many different materials, including leather, velvet, cotton, microfiber and vinyl. Each material has specific advantages and disadvantages when it comes to wear and tear and maintenance. They also look and feel different so it is also a matter of your personal style and taste.
Go to the store and sit in them
Obviously, more than anything you want to be comfortable in the sofa. You should try them out. Consider the softness of the couches you test. Do your research about how well the materials and stuffing should hold up — you do not want one that will sag quickly.
You and your family are likely to get many hours of use out of your sofa, so choose wisely.
