: Web Design how to Justify Charging more than Competitors to a Customer
Remember the old saying “You get what you pay for?” There is no reason why a web designer should feel like they have to charge the same price as everyone else. It can be okay and perfectly justified if you charge more than competitors to a customer – if there is a reason. Consider the following methods to justify this.
You have more experience
You may be able to justify the higher cost if you have more experience. In general people who have worked at jobs for longer do get paid more. You pay for this experience, which is usually accompanied by knowledge and “how-to.” This is how it is in many other fields. Veteran teachers, firefighters, police officers, businessmen and others usually do make more than their novice counterparts.
You are more skilled
If you are more skilled at web design then it can make sense that you charge more. The customers will be getting more. If their web design is better, then it can help them get their own customers and clients and they might be making more money for it. There are many amateur web designers out there, and they can find someone lower cost if quality is not as much of an issue. It can make sense that they pay more for you to do the work when you can do it better.
You spend more time on the work
If you are willing to spend more time to make the web design better then you can be justified in asking for more money. Web designers spend significantly different amounts of time on the same or similar projects. The more time you spend, the better it might be and you can be reasonable in asking for more money for more of your time.
You give additional services
There may be other services or features that you offer that can make your work worth more. For instance, perhaps you include the price of revisions in the cost of the web design. Perhaps you will help them maintain the website and keep it looking nice or help them make changes as necessary. Perhaps you help them learn how they can maintain it on their own. Also, it might be about making yourself available to them such as if they need to call you to make quick changes.
It is often reasonable to charge more for web design than your competitors. The above reasons are how you might justify this to your customers.
