What to do if your Wedding Dress does not Fit on the Big Day

(487 Words)
Your first thought of what to do if your wedding dress does not fit on the big day might be to panic. A natural reaction, to say the least, but not really productive. There are many other actions that may help you.
Fix it yourself
Sometimes there is something simple that can be done to fix your wedding dress, if you have brought along a thread and a needle. Of course, it may be easier if you have lost a little weight and just need it to be brought in a little. You may be able to tighten it by sewing it.
Find a seamstress
If you have tried on your wedding dress with a few hours to spare, then that may actually be enough time to get a seamstress. In many areas, there are a variety of such people who work out of dress shops, laundry facilities and their homes. You can open up the phone book and start going down one after the next to see if one of them may be able to fit you in to fix your dress.
Improvise
There are many ways that you can get around a wedding dress not fitting. For instance, let’s say that you just can’t quite pull up that zipper all the way. You may be able to use some safety pins in the back to hold it together. If it is covered by your hair or your veil, then no one may ever know. You may be able to just leave it a little open. You can wear a wrap or a shawl to cover it.
Also, think about other measures you may take. If it seems too lose, then perhaps you can add a sash that cinches it in. Perhaps it is too tight in the skirt, but if you remove some of the crinoline underneath then it would be okay.
You may even choose to tear a little part of it if it is too tight. There may be a place that you can open it up yourself, and then cover with something. If this is the only way you can fit, then it may be worthwhile.
Look for something else
If you are truly desperate and feel like it would not ruin your entire day, you may be able to dash to find something else, very quickly. There are many stores open that have gowns that can be used for a wedding. Of course, you can go to a bridal store that sells samples that may fit you well enough. There are many formal occasion dresses at regular stores that can work as well.
You also may be able to borrow a wedding dress from someone. One of your female friends who is close in size to you may have something that would work.
Do not panic if your wedding dress doesn’t fit on the big day. Instead, try the above strategies.
