What to Drink while you are on a Diet

Many people sabotage their diets not with what they eat but instead with what they drink. Because drinking does not tend to fill you up like eating does, people do not realize how many calories that they consume. However, you can easily consume over 1,000 calories in one ice cream shake. That represents half the calories the average person might eat in a day. Fortunately, there are a number of healthy drinks that you can have while on a diet.
Water
Of course water is the best drink to have. It contains no calories and you can drink quite a lot of it. It is available at almost every restaurant for free. It is easy to carry with you and many places that do not allow you to bring in general food or drinks do not mind if you bring in a water bottle.
Juice in moderation
Juice may have calories and sugar, however it is natural and also offers nutrients. You can allow yourself one glass of juice a day. Mix the juice with water to dilute it and then you can have more with the same calories.
Diet drinks
Diet drinks such as diet soda should also be taken in moderation, especially depending on the chemicals in it. Some of them have chemicals that are not good to have in large concentrations. They make diet versions of soda, lemonade and many other beverages.
Milk
Milk can be very good for someone on a diet. Make sure that you get skim milk or milk that is fat free. This can provide a lot of nutrients and is very refreshing.
Healthy smoothie
A smoothie can not only quench your thirst but it can be very healthy. There is no limit to what you can put into a blender to make a healthy smoothie. You can put in vegetables such as spinach, carrots and broccoli to provide a lot of vitamins with hardly any calories. You can put in fruit to sweeten it up. Use ice, water or skim milk as a base. Of course stay away from ice cream and sugar. Experiment with different drinks to find combinations that you enjoy.
A lot of people drink energy drinks, however these are not necessary the best on a diet because they contain a lot of sugar without a lot of real nutritional benefit unless you are exercising like an elite athlete. You are much better off with water.
