How Moms with Toddlers can Work at Home

Your toddler might seem like a full-time job in herself or himself, however many moms need or want to work from home as well. There are many ways that you can accomplish this.
Types of positions
There are many work at home positions that may be suitable for a mother of a toddler. Remember that you might need something that is extremely flexible with the hours. You may need to stop working to change a diaper, to comfort your child, to feed him, etc.
One great field is freelance writing. You can choose a website such as www.helium.com and write articles at your convenience. There are a number of other websites that pay for articles or writing, and these all have different submission and payment policies. If you are experienced in another area of writing such as if you are a freelance copywriter, then perhaps you can get a marketing position that you can work on from home.
There are many other fields with work from home opportunities. A lot of mothers perform graphic design work. If you have experience in a particular field, you might be some sort of consultant.
Finding time
Many mothers of toddlers cannot imagine when they would have the time to work. It may not be a lot, but there can be some. One great time is when your child is sleeping. These times will of course depend on your child’s particular sleeping habits. Some toddlers sleep in late and so you might be able to get up early and get a little work in then. Others may go to bed early, and so you can work then. Most kids of this age also take naps, so you can try to fit in some work during these times as well.
There also might be time when your toddler is busy that you can work. Of course you want to be sure that you always have your eye on your toddler so that they do not get into trouble, and you do not want to just ignore them all day, however many toddlers do spend some time doing activities like coloring, playing with their toys, etc. You can try to set up a room with lots of toys and activities for the child that also has your workstation so you can work while they are playing next to you. If they want your attention then you can take a break.
Work when you have help
If you have a husband who comes home at night then you can work when he can watch your child. You can also consider hiring a mother’s helper, which is typically cheaper than a babysitter since you will be home. They can entertain the child while you work.
Working at home when you are the mother of a toddler can be possible. It is all a matter of balance and making sure that you are providing for the toddler’s needs while using your free time to work. The above tips can get you started in this area.
