(402 Words)
There are many great art projects that students can do for Thanksgiving. Consider the following ideas.
Cornucopia
The children can make their own cornucopia. First they can take either a real basket that is already in a cone shape or they can make their own using brown construction paper and folding it in the shape of a cone. They can then make a bunch of paper fruits. They can use different art supplies to decorate them such as paints, crayons and markers. They can add embellishments like glitter, beads, crystals and so forth. Also, they can use other art materials to signify the fruits. For instance, they can take a Styrofoam ball and make it into an apple by covering it in paint or red tissue wrap. They can make a very small one or one that is very big.
Happy Thanksgiving Day card
They can make something very special for their parents or another family member by making them a Happy Thanksgiving Day card. They can draw whatever they want on it. They may want to show a scene from Thanksgiving, such as their family eating dinner together. They can make a scene from the first Thanksgiving with the Pilgrims and the American Indians. They can draw a turkey. They can then write out something special. Again, paints, crayons or markers can be used depending on the age of the children. They can also cut out shapes of paper and glue those on.
Pilgrim Mask
The children can make themselves a mask of a pilgrim. You can pre-cut out the general shape of the mask if they are too young or they can do it themselves. There should be holes for their eyes, nose and mouth. They can then use construction paper or crayons to make the hats the pilgrims would wear.
Turkey project
The children can use a lot of different pieces of cut construction paper to make a turkey. You can have a head drawn and a lot of feathers made out of paper. They can then glue this on to make a colorful turkey. You can then have them decorate it with other art items. They can even add real feathers to it to make it seem more realistic.
When Thanksgiving Day comes, an art project can teach the children about the holiday and allow them to express their creativity. Consider the above ideas when formulating your project.
