A bulletin board is an educational and attractive tool for your classroom, and it is useful to rotate them to create different experiences for the children. Of course, it can get expensive to create brand new bulletin boards out of new materials every time. Fortunately, you can recycle border and graphics from older boards to make new ones.
The first step in recycling borders and graphics from older boards is to buy ones that will be versatile in the first place. For instance, let’s say that you are doing a bulletin board on math and you want an attractive border. You may be tempted by the border that has numbers on it, but then you will not be able to use it when you want to do your bulletin board on language arts or science. Instead you can get a more generic border such as one that has stripes or polka dots. It will still make for an attractive display but be useable for a variety of different boards.
You want to make your borders and graphics stronger so that they are less likely to get damaged or worn out. One method is to laminate them. This can make ordinary paper much stronger. You can also look for graphics and borders that are more durable. Although you may pay a little more for these items at the beginning, it will still save you if they last among different boards.
Another way to make borders and graphics easier to recycle is based on how you affix them. If you place a hundred staples in them, then they may be more difficult to remove without ripping. Some stronger ones may come off with a staple remover, but then they will have holes in them. You can try to use fewer staples if you feel that this is the best method for you or use putty that is removable. Putty or tape can allow you to hang up borders and graphics without damage.
When you have finished with a bulletin board, then be very careful when you take down the borders and graphics you plan on reusing. You should fold or roll them up nicely. If you will not be using them immediately, then have a clean place where they can be stored such as a box or storage area. Label it clearly.
You can save time and money by recycling borders and graphics from old bulletin boards. The above tips can allow you create attractive designs and save money at the same time.
