An outdoor dinner party can be a lovely event. Especially if you have a nice backyard or other place that you are going to have it at, dining under the stars can be beautiful indeed. There are certain things you will want to consider when making such a party, however. The following is a guide on how to plan an outdoor dinner party.
Think about how many people you should invite
Make your guest list wisely. Think about how many people can realistically be in the space you have. You do not want it to be overcrowded. In addition, think about how much seating you will have. You do not want to invite too many people and have a problem.
Find the tables and chairs
You may have enough tables and chairs to bring outside (or already outside) or you might need to rent. If you do bring in tables from the inside, be careful – you do not want to ruin your good tables with the outside elements. Consider what types of coverings you will have. Depending on the size and type of affair, you may want to assign seating.
Have a bad weather plan
Unfortunately, Mother Nature does not always approve of our dinner plans. Should the party start just as the heavens are opening with torrents of rain, you want to have some plan in place. If there is somewhere indoors that can accommodate the people such as your house, then that is fine. If you want a tent then that is fine too.
You should be aware of other weather conditions beyond rain. Decide what you will do if it becomes extremely cold on that day. Also, if it is very sunny or hot, you may want to consider adding a tent or shaded area where some people can get away from the sun.
Think about how you will do the food.
Are you going to serve it from inside? Are you going to set it up as a buffet? If you are going to do a buffet, think about what you will do to keep the food warm or cold (if applicable). Also, think about what you will do to protect the food from the bugs. You might want some covers or some other method.
Think about how people will use the facilities
You want to make provisions for everything. Obviously, people will have to be able to use the facilities and so forth when they are there. Make sure that you have accommodations set up.
Think about the plates and tableware
Again, you do not want your good china getting ruined because it is outside. That is not to say that you cannot use it but just be aware that it will be outside in the elements. There are also many paper plate options that look very nice. They make some plates and tableware available at places like Costco that are meant to look like ceramic plates and real silverware.
There are many factors to consider when planning an outside dinner party. Consider the above tips when making your plans.
