The swine flu can be a scary thing. For most it is not serious, but for a select few it can be extremely serious and even cause death. It is also scary because it can be felt very strongly in young people who often are not hit as hard by other viruses. Fortunately, there are things that you can do in order to protect yourself and your family from this dangerous condition. The following are tips to help protect your family against swine flu.
Get vaccinated
This is probably the most important thing that you can do. By getting yourself and your family vaccinated, you will drastically lower your chances of contracting this dangerous condition. Most people from ages six months and up can receive the vaccine. Most adults need only one dose while many children need two. It comes in two forms – a shot containing the dead virus and a nasal spray, which contains the weakened virus.
Have your family stay away from those that are sick
The further you stay away from those that are sick, the less likely that you are to get the swine flu. Obviously, you do not want to put yourself in a bubble, however there are general precautions that you can take. If your kids have a friend that is sick, for instance, it probably wouldn’t be the best time to have him over for a play date. If you sometimes sit next to someone in the work cafeteria, and she obviously has a terrible cold, then you might want to consider sitting elsewhere on that day. Obviously if you know of anyone who has the actual swine flu, you will want to stay far away from them. Even if you do not know what it is, however, you might want to be careful just in case it is that. Many cases of the swine flu are relatively mild and oftentimes the person has no idea that they had it.
Wash hands and keep clean
Washing hands is a powerful tool in the fight against sickness. It’s amazing how much you can help prevent just by keeping clean. Make sure that you wash your hands and instill in your children to do so, especially before eating. You can use cleaning supplies and sanitizers to clean the home, especially if someone was ill.
It is important to do all you can in order to avoid your family from getting the swine flu. Consider the above techniques to help you accomplish this.
