50 Words: 10 Ways Teachers go above and beyond the Call of Duty
2277 Words: 417
It is a noble position that changes the lives of many. Many teachers go far beyond the call of duty, sacrificing much for the sake of their students. Teachers do this in many different ways. The following are some of the noble things that they do.
Pay for school supplies out of their own pockets
Many schools are cutting back on school supplies. This may actually mean less enriching projects or exercises, which can really benefit the students. In these difficult times, may teachers (who themselves might also be struggling financially) reach into their pockets to put the money out to buy school supplies. They may buy things for individual students or for the class as a whole. Teachers are not known for their gigantic salaries, so for them to use their own money to pay for something for the students is quite impressive, and definitely qualifies as being above and beyond the call of duty.
Stay late to work with the children
Most teachers have specified hours that they work. Of course, they may take work home, but rarely are they forced to stay after work to help an individual student. And yet many do. Many teachers will stay after, during their own personal time, to work with a student and help him or her with their work if they do not understand something. They are often not at all paid for this – they are just doing it from the good of their hearts. Some will get up early to be with students while others will stay hours after their allotted time to tutor or help a student. Some of them will just be there to listen to the student, even if it is a personal problem that has nothing to do with school.
Run sports teams or other clubs without compensation
Some teachers will get compensated when they run extra-curricular activities, but many do not. Some of them do it because there would be no one else to do it and it wouldn’t happen if it were not for them. Sports teams and other clubs can make a huge difference for children, and without someone “stepping up” a lot of them would not happen. Even the teachers who do not run them but go all the time to watch the games and support the school and the students are also going above the call of duty. Many of them go only to show their support, which can be a big boost for the children.
