: How to be Considerate when Working in Public Places
:
(400 Words)
Many people in a variety of different fields work in public places. You may be a janitor cleaning while people are walking around a public building. You may work for a public organization such a library. No matter what public place it is, try the following methods to be considerate.
Try not to be too loud
Obviously in some cases you have no choice. If you are doing road work near a public place, then it may be loud no matter what you do. However, there are times when you can minimize how loud you are. You may want to especially talk quietly if you are in a place where people are hard at work such as a library.
Try not to get in people’s way
When you are working in a public place, other people will be using the space as well. You want to be as considerate as possible to those people. If they are hurrying to get past, then try not to block a walkway. Try to work around them so that they can do what they need to do as well.
Be considerate when interacting with others
Many people have the job of interacting with people in a public place. If it is your job to deal with the public, then try to be considerate in your conversations. Part of it is just good manners – the please, thank you and other terms your parents probably taught you.
Do not leave out anything that could be dangerous to people
You may have certain tools that you are using, especially if you are working in a field such as construction. If you have anything that could potentially be dangerous, then make sure that it is not within the grasp of a child or somewhere else where it could get into the wrong hands. You should not leave a shaky ladder propped up against the wall of a public place, for instance. You should not leave out power tools that someone may find. You should even be careful about dropping things such as nails on the floor if someone could step on one and hurt themselves.
It can be challenging to work in a public place, and you want to be as considerate to others as possible. It will be better for you and for them. The above tactics can help guide you to the behavior that you want.
