Not everyone wants to buy breastfeeding clothing for the short time that they are breastfeeding. It can be pricey, and you might be able to make do without it if you know of some clever ways. Consider the following ideas.
Use a blanket
You can simply use a blanket to cover yourself up while you are breastfeeding. A lot of people might just think that you are holding a sleeping child and might not even realize that you are breastfeeding. Try to find one that is the right size and works for you. Also make sure that the baby does not get too hot and can breathe sufficiently under it.
Use a wrap
You might be able to use an everyday fashion wrap or poncho to help cover yourself while you are breastfeeding. Again, make sure that the baby gets enough air. Make sure that it is loose enough. Many people like to wear wraps as everyday accessories so this can look nice as well. A large jacket can also make it easier to breastfeed discreetly.
Wear breastfeeding-friendly clothing
There is some clothing that is not made for breastfeeding and yet it makes it easy to nurse in. For instance, you can get a shirt or a dress that has a wrap top that you can easily pull down to just expose the part where the baby is nursing. You can also wear a larger shirt that the baby can fit neatly under and breastfed without exposing anything.
If you have long hair, use it to cover up
Long hair might be useful to help cover up while nursing. You can put it over your shoulder and it might hide some of what you would see.
Put a hat on the baby
One neat idea is to get a big wide brimmed hat for the baby to wear while nursing. They actually sell some that are specifically made for breastfeeding women. These come in different sizes, colors and designs. They are so big that you really cannot see the baby as he or she is nursing.
Breastfeeding clothing can be very expensive, and many people can be able to improvise with their own clothing and strategies. Also, remember that breastfeeding is important and you should not be nervous or look embarrassed while you are doing it. Act nonchalant and many will not even realize you are doing it.
