How to Eat Healthy at the Mall

Much of the food at the mall is very unhealthy. It is easy to load up on the calories, fat and sodium. A healthy meal may be more the exception than the rule at the mall, however you can find one if you look for it. Heed the following tips.
Eat a healthy sandwich or wrap
You will typically find relatively healthy sandwiches at the mall. There is often a Subway or another sub shop. You can start with wheat bread or a wheat wrap. You should then pile on the veggies such as lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, etc. Skip the mayonnaise, cheese and fatty meats such as meatballs.
Have a salad
Many malls offer relatively interesting salads. These can be delicious and be much healthier than other meals. Many places will have full size salads that incorporate vegetables and other items. Of course if you smother them with bacon, full fat salad dressing and croutons, then they may become terrible for you so look to the lighter or fat free salad dressings.
Look for healthier sides
Sometimes people will get a relatively healthy main dish but then get a lot of unhealthy sides. Instead of French fries, try to find a place that offers a baked potato. Usually you will find one of these at the mall. Do not get it loaded with bacon, sour cream, and cheese however. Many places also offer vegetables such as the Chinese restaurants. You can get vegetables as sides or even make a variety of them your entire meal. You will need to make sure that they are not covered in butter or a fatty, salty sauce as that can make them just as bad as other foods. If you look you are likely to find some steamed vegetables, which are low in calories and provide a lot of nutritional benefits. Some places will also offer fruits as well. Also, try to stay away from unhealthy drinks such as sodas that are full of sugar.
It may be easier to rule out the unhealthy foods at the mall and then go for the healthiest food left. Foods like pizza and other foods with smothered cheese or red meat is usually unhealthy. Food with a lot of cream such as a pasta is not good. Stay away from fried foods like fried chicken. Instead choose the above selections to eat healthy at the mall.
