A classroom bulletin board can be a great way to beautify your classroom and teach the students at the same time. The following are tips for effectively crafting such a display.
Make it eye-catching and interesting
You want the students to be drawn in to the bulletin board. One way to do this is to put in bright and interesting pictures. A lot of people are attracted to those and it can help catch their attention right away. You can also try to come up with a stellar title.
Make it “come out”
A bulletin board does not have to be flat. You can put things in it that make it look like it is coming out from the wall. For instance, if you doing a board on healthy foods, you can get some fake food and put them up there. This may be more interesting to look at than just pictures of food. You can also add embellishments like ribbons, features, sequins, glitter and more to make it a more attractive display.
Put a MODERATE amount of good information
You want the bulletin board to be informative and teach the children. On the other hand if you overload it with too much small type, then the children may be less likely to look at it and read it because it might seem overwhelming. It is not a textbook and should not have print that small.
Make it interactive
One great way to make a bulletin board more effective is to make it interactive. Many children learn better by doing than just by seeing, and there is no reason why a bulletin board cannot be this way. One neat idea is to make little “books” on the board or even to make the whole thing one big book. You can make it so that the children can “turn the pages” on the book. You can also put little quizzes on it or have different parts covered by “flaps” that they can lift up.
Get the children involved
Sometimes the best way to help increase the efficacy of a bulletin board is to get the children involved. You can put some of their pictures on it. You can let them help you design it.
A classroom bulletin board can be very useful. Make sure that you are neat so that it does not look messy or come apart easily. The above ideas can help you make an effective display.
