: How to Sneak more Vegetables into to your Childs Diet

:
(440 Words)
With powerful disease frightening vitamins and minerals, vegetables are one of the most important components of a child’s healthy diet. Yet many children cringe at the mere thought, and they may play “plate hockey” with their fork rather than actually get any into their mouth. Fortunately, there are some simple ways to sneak more vegetables into your child’s diet.
Make drinks with vegetables
When you think of vegetables you may think of eating, however there is no reason that children cannot drink their vegetables. There are many drinks that are premade with vegetables such as V8 or you can make your own. If you buy one, be careful for the amount of sodium found in them. If your children do not like the taste of vegetables juice then you can make a fruit smoothie with some strong tasting fruit like strawberries and just add in a few vegetables whose taste might be muted.
Hide some vegetables in strong tasting meals so they can’t taste them
Some new cookbooks have emerged with the sole purpose of hiding healthy foods in other recipes. Some people will even hide vegetables in desserts! You can experiment to see what works. Many vegetables do not have a very strong flavor and the child might not realize they are there. Of course they will still get the health benefits.
Experiment with different recipes
A lot of children might enjoy cooked recipes more than just plain vegetables. For instance, you can make a quiche with spinach that a child just loves (although watch for unhealthy other ingredients). Try cutting up and cooking the vegetables. You can make zucchini “pancakes” that taste delicious.
Give them with a little dip
Many kids love to dip. They may be willing to have vegetables if you give them a little something like dressing in which to dip them. Another sneaky way to hide the vegetables is to make the dip be made of them and let them dip bread or something else in it.
It is important to maximize the number of vegetables in your child’s diet, and that doesn’t mean three servings of French fries. One mistake that a lot of people make it setting them up as the bad thing. For instance, if you tell your child that he or she has to eat the vegetables in order to get the dessert, then it is almost like you are saying that the vegetables are bad and the dessert is the reward for suffering through them. Try to portray them as delicious instead. Also try to give them a variety of the healthiest of vegetables such as spinach and broccoli.
