: How to Communicate with Animals

:
(405 Words)
There are many ways that one can communicate with animals. How you do so will depend on the type of animal and the actual animal. The following are some common methods.
Talk to him or her
A lot of animals respond to commands. For instance, you can tell a dog to sit or have a word for taking a walk. Many dogs have an understanding of a length vocabulary. Some other animals will respond to commands as well. Also, even if the animals do not understand the actual words they can also often understand the tone of your voice. They may get something different from when you are yelling at them compared to when you are speaking slowly and soothingly even if you say the exact same words. The tone of your voice as well as how loud you are may communicate to them.
Through gestures
You may be able to communicate with some animals using gestures. For instance, you may be able to “talk” to some chimpanzees this way. Other animals might learn that a certain gesture means to do something. Oftentimes animal trainers who want animals to do something will reward the animals with a small treat or something to eat when they properly respond to a command. Also, if you make threatening gestures, a lot of animals can understand that as well.
You can also communicate through body language. Some dogs may interpret you as a threat or as harmless by the way you are standing for instance. Your poise can say a lot about you and certain animals can pick up on some of this just like humans can.
Through touch
A lot of animals can understand a lot through touch. Giving a dog a friendly petting, for instance, can communicate love and affection. Holding a cat scared of a thunderstorm in your arms can convey comfort and strength. Just playing with a dog through touch can tell him or her something. Of course, it can go the other way too. You are definitely sending a communication when you hit an animal, for instance.
Through facial expression
Some animals may be able to interpret your facial expressions just like humans can. This may be true of some of the more intelligent animals.
Even if you cannot have a full conversation with your animal, you can still often communicate with him or her in a variety of ways. Consider the above methods.
