(464 Words)
When travelling you will want to take into account more than just the safety issues for humans. You want to make sure that your furry, feathered, scaly and other animal friends are safe as well. Consider the following pet safety tips.
Be sure to know the pet laws wherever you are going
Different places have different laws regarding pets. Some might not allow certain dogs such as pit bulls, for instance. Other places require that dogs be on a leash. Make sure that you are aware of any and all laws regarding your animals. This is especially important if you are going to be travelling overseas. Some of them will even quarantine animals for a certain amount of time. You do not want to arrive after a long plane trip only to have a problem when you get there.
Make sure that you make arrangements for your pet at home if you are going to be leaving him or her there on their own
You will need to be sure that your pet is well cared for if you are not taking him or her with you on your travels. Some people will just leave their animal on their own if they are going to be gone for a short period of time such as a weekend. Just make sure that you leave plenty of food and water. Make sure that here is nothing out that could hurt the animal such as food or something breakable. If you feel like it might be too long, then consider having someone come in to feed and check on the animal.
You can also consider a boarding facility. If you do so, make sure that it is a safe one. Make sure that it has all of the necessary permits and licenses. Tour it to make sure that it is safe for your animal.
Make sure that you stay close to your animal at all times while on your trip
In most cases, you might want to keep your dog on a leash if you are somewhere unfamiliar. Even if the dog will always come back to you when you are at home, he or she might get confused while on vacation. You also might not know the different rules they have about lost and stray animals. Also, make sure you have your dog or cat wearing tags.
Make sure to follow all rules
You will want to do everything by the book while travelling. Look for a hotel that is pet friendly and do not try to sneak one in. One that is not pet friendly might not be set up for a pet and could be dangerous.
You want your pet to stay safe during travel season. The above tips can help you accomplish this.
