: What to do when your Spouse is Jealous of your Pet
:
(430 Words)
It can be a touchy situation when your spouse is jealous of your pet. Obviously for most, their spouse is more important than their animal, so you will want to make sure to remedy this situation. Consider the following moves.
Talk to your spouse
First you want to make sure that your spouse understands that you do love him or her more than the animal. You can talk to him or her about their concerns. Get their point of view. They may have valid points that you will need to address. Reassure them. Do not just tell them that they are being silly because this will probably only serve to make them more upset.
Think about the behaviors that might be causing their reaction and change them if necessary
At first thought, you might think that your spouse is being ridiculous to be jealous of your pet, however you should truly think about your behavior. Do you sit holding your little dog or cat for hours but then tell your spouse that you have no time to spend with them? Do you talk to your pet in a cute voice but then be curt when you spouse speaks? A lot of times their feelings of jealousy might be warranted. Remember, they are obviously not likely to think that you have a relationship with the animal but jealous of the time you spend with the animal, the way you treat him or her or the affinity that you have for him or her. The change you make might not have anything to do with your animal but with how you speak to and act with your spouse. If they are jealous of how nicely you speak with the animal and you start speaking that way to them too, then they might stop being jealous. If they want to be held more, then they might not care about the time you spend with the animal. Of course, you only have so much time and there might have to be a choice made. For most, this will hopefully be their spouse.
Compromise
There might be ways that you can spend time with your animal but get rid of the jealousy. For instance, if she is jealous of the long hikes you usually go on alone with the animal when you don’t seem to have time for her, then see if you can all go together.
Your spouse is important, and you do not want him or her to be jealous of your pet. Consider the above strategies to help fix such a situation.
