What to look for when Comparing Cell Phone Plans
Cell phone plans range greatly. You will want to carefully compare these, especially since you will be possibly paying for them month after month on a locked in contract. You should look at the following characteristics when comparing these.
The price
Obviously this is the first thing you are going to look at. How much does it cost per month? Also, there are other costs. Is there an activation fee? Also, if you go over your minutes, then how much does it cost per minute? If there is any chance that you might go over, then this could be important. Also, there are often other features that cost to add such as an extra phone line, longer night hours, adding texting or the Internet, etc. If you will be adding any of these features, then be sure to include them in the cost. Also, remember that there are a great deal of taxes and fees in the cost of cell phone plans so make sure to take this into account. It is a percentage in a lot of the cases, so it might be much greater for a $100 a month plan as compared to a $50 a month plan. Also, many times certain people are eligible for discounts with certain cell phone plans, such as if you are military, so look for availability of this.
Consider the amount of minutes that you get
You will want to look at how many minutes the plan offers. Are these anytime or are they broken down into day hours versus night and weekend hours, which are very common. What are the hours of these? Also, ask what happens if you are on the phone when it changes from day to night hours or vice versa. Think about the plan that you would need to get to cover your needs.
Look at the network
You will want to consider whether the plan covers you no matter where you are. Some plans will charge roaming fees – which can be very high – if you go outside the area. You want to be careful if you are caught in this.
Look at the other features
Does the plan offer Internet access or texting? Is it unlimited? Many of these plans have limits on this and you can easily exceed this and be talking about some serious extra costs. Also, look at whether it is a 3G network or a 4G network.
You also want to look at the flexibility of the plans. If the plan doesn’t work for you, can you change to another without penalty? Does it extend your contract? What is the cost for cancelling the plan? Look at all of these factors when determining the cell phone plan that is right for you.
