(514 Words)
As soon as you have that ring on your finger, you may be dying to go out and purchase that wedding dress. Although the draw may be huge, this is not necessarily a move you should make so quickly for the following reasons.
You do not want to buy something that is not “the one” just because you are excited
A lot of brides are eager to shop for wedding dresses. They may just decide to get the first dress that meets their expectations. They may think that they are getting excited about the dress when they are really thrilled about the engagement as a whole. You want to make sure that you take the time to pick out a dress that is really special and not just acceptable because it is a wedding dress.
The venue and other aspects of the wedding may influence your choice
Some people are influenced in their style of dress by the type of wedding. For instance, if you decide to get married on a ship with narrow doorways and stairs then you might want to get a lighter, smaller dress. A lot of people do not make these wedding plans right away. If they may influence your wedding dress choice, then you will want to wait until you know them.
You may change size
Many brides work hard to lose weight before their wedding. This can influence the dress in several ways. First certain dresses and styles are more flattering on certain body types. If you are at a heavier weight then you might not like a style on you that you otherwise would have and you may go with your second choice. If you had waited until you lost weight, however, then you could have gotten the one you actually wanted.
You also do not want to get a dress and then change size so drastically that it is an issue with the seamstress. Obviously dresses can be let in or taken out but if you lose a significant amount of weight it can be much more difficult. You may pay a fortune for alterations, and in some cases they may even suggest a different dress.
You want to give the engagement a little time
Obviously you are not thinking of your engagement ending when you get engaged. Unfortunately, however, this does happen to some people. Wedding gowns are extremely expensive and you may pay hundreds, thousands and even tens of thousands of dollars on a dress. Most of these are non-returnable. You may not even be able to get your deposit back when you order it. One of the big reasons behind an engagement is to give the couple time to get used to the idea of being married and make sure that it is right for them, so you may want to wait to buy the dress until you have a given it a little time.
Buying a wedding dress is very exciting, but you do not want to rush it. In order to get the right dress, give yourself the time you need.
