: Easy Ideas to Cut Grocery Costs

Grocery costs are a large part of many people’s budgets. It is also a cost that comes month after month thus even small savings in this category can have an impact over time. Consider the following easy ideas to cut these.
Use coupons
You will find a wide variety of coupons by both manufacturers and grocery stores themselves. These can often be substantial. Many stores will double them although some do have a limit on that such as a $1 cap, and some coupons specifically forbid it. You can find a lot of coupons in the ads section of your Sunday newspaper. In addition, you may find some online or receive some in targeted mailers.
Look for sales
Grocery store sales can be quite large. Many stores such as Publix have an entire section of “buy one product, get one free” every week, which rotates. You can stock up when you see something you like on a big sale (although make sure that it will not go to waste). A few grocery stores will also have some clearance items, although this is more rare.
You will also sometimes find that products will offer rebates. You might have to mail something in, but it can still be worth it.
Shop at a less expensive place
There are many places that are simply less money than others. For instance, Costco has a wide variety of grocery such as fruits and vegetables for far cheaper than traditional grocers. Also, many Targets have a partial or full supermarket within them that is often cheaper than more traditional grocers.
Buy in larger quantities
You can often save money if you buy groceries in much larger amounts. For instance, in general if you buy the bigger boxes of cereal it is less per ounce. You can look for these savings.
Buy store brand products
Instead of always buying the name brands, consider the store brand. It is usually cheaper, and sometimes it is half the cost or less. It is even sometimes made by the same manufacturer but is often of the same or even greater quality.
Instead of using one of the above tactics, use several or more to maximize your savings. For instance, many grocery stores will accept coupons on sale items. If the item offers a rebate you might be able to use that, too. Consider all of the above ideas to cut your grocery costs.
