How to Maximize your Schedule with a Family Chore Chart
A family chore chart can help your family maximize your schedule to give you the most efficient, effective and fair method for completing tasks. It should be created fairly and can also be dynamic.
First you will want to have a family meeting either when creating the family chore chart or when explaining it. Family members may be more willing to do the work to which they are assigned if they have input in its production. On one side of the family chore chart you will list all of the members of the family. On the top you will need to list all of the different chores. In the middle will be boxes, which will indicate whose chore it is. The length of time you make the family chore chart will be dependent on your needs. Many will make it a weekly chart, but you can do something that is monthly or for a different length instead. Try to include as many chores as you can.
Another way to make the family chore chart is to get into detail with every specific day. You can put the chores on the top and the days of the week on the side. In the spaces you can write names. This is appropriate when a different person will do a chore depending on the day of the week.
Many want to be able to switch around their family chart. If so, you can put it on a board that allows you to use erasable markers. Alternatively you can put removable stickers or something else on it to show whose job it is.
There are many things to take into consideration when assigning the chores in the chart. First you want it to be fair. A family chore chart can help you make it fair because it will be easier to visualize all of the tasks that need to be done. You can assign tasks during the family meeting if you would like. One great way is to have everyone pick one chore, and then go through and have them pick another and keep doing that until all of the chores are assigned. Of course you have to take into account who can do which chore (obvious a three year old is not going to take out all of the trash in the house by herself).
Post the family chore chart where everyone can see it so that everyone is aware of what they have to do and nothing gets missed. Another way it can be useful is by having people mark down on it when they have completed a chore. This will help assure that everyone gets done what they are supposed to do.
A family chore chart can be a useful tool to help get all of the chores done in a fair and orderly fashion. Alter it as family needs change.
