Planning Tips for a new Family Dog

A new family dog can be a friend to everyone in the family. Dogs are a lot of work, however, and proper planning can help integrate your new furry friend into the family. Consider the following tips.
Clear some time on your schedule
First, it is important to know that new dogs do take time. You might not want to plan a big vacation right when you get your new family dog if you can help it. Especially if you are getting a puppy it can take time to get everything set up and the dog may have trouble adjusting. You may want to plan it for a point when you have a little more time available.
Plan who will do what responsibilities
A new family dog is a lot of work. The dog needs to be fed, walked, played with, etc. You will want to make sure that everyone does their part, especially if there was some sort of deal made with children about certain responsibilities. If the duties will be rotating, you should make a schedule so that everyone knows what they will be responsible for when.
Make sure to have e vet set up
If you do not already have a veterinarian that you use, you will want to find one prior to getting your new family dog. When the dog gets sick in the middle of the night and you need to call an emergency number, you want to have somewhere to call. You can ask people you know for recommendations or visit different local vets to find one that is right for you.
Make sure that you have a space for your dog
You want to have an area planned for your dog. If he is to be inside, you might want to get him a little doggie bed. You can get him some toys as well. If you want to have him outside, you might get him a doghouse. Also make sure that you have a secure fence if he will be outside. You also need to look for other products like a dog tag, collar and leash. Make sure that you have some dog food as well as a bowl and other feeding supplies.
A new family dog is a lot of work, but he or she can be a rewarding investment. Use the above strategies to help yourself plan for the newest member of your family.
