The Worst Christmas Gift you can Give your Parents

(421 Words)
There are some great gifts to give for parents for Christmas and then there are some not-so-great gifts. You want to give something truly special to the people who raised you and it is important to think of what may be offensive or annoying to them. Avoid the following gifts.
Money
Your parents supported you through many years of your life, and may still be doing so. They are likely to consider it inappropriate for their children to give them money. Not only does it seem inappropriate but it is as impersonal as you can get. Your parents want you to think of them and make an effort when picking out their gift, not simply open your wallet to give them money. Unless there is some specific need that they have, you may want to save financial gifts for your children.
Everyday household items (unless specifically needed)
Do not get your parents cleaning supplies, unless they specially need and ask for it. Do not get your mother a new mop or instrument to clean the house. According to Today’s Parent, most moms do not want a new vacuum cleaner as a gift. Likewise if your parents do not like to cook, do not get them cooking supplies. These items bring no excitement to them and will make them feel that you just think of them as your maid and cook.
Self-help book
No matter how much your parents need help with something, do not buy them a self help book. According to ParentDish, this can be very insulting to your parents. Even if your mother could stand to lose a few pounds, she is very unlikely to appreciate a weight-loss book from you. Your dad does not want you to get him a book on controlling his anger. Although these may be okay things to give at a different time, they do not make good Christmas gifts.
Also avoid anything else that is a self-help measure. Do not buy them counseling sessions with a therapist or a membership to a weight loss clinic. Do not pre-pay for plastic surgery!
Pet
No matter how much your parents love animals, do not give them a pet. Pets take a lot of work and must be cared for diligently for years to come. Your parent may have to find a way to give the pet away. If you think they would love it, ask first!
Think of what your parents would enjoy when getting their gifts. To prevent a problem, avoid the above presents.
