Traveling on a Greyhound bus with kids can be quite an experience. Good or bad – this can depend on how prepared you are. The following are tips for making such a trip with little ones.
Bring activities for the children to do
Your kids are unlikely to sit quietly for minute after minute, hour after hour. It will be especially difficult for them to remain seated for a long trip on such a bus. You want to bring some things to occupy your children, and fortunately, there are many choices. You can bring something educational such as an activity book and some crayons. You can also bring some leisure books to read to them or for them to read to themselves if they are old enough. You can even bring a little DVD player. They also have many handheld video game systems such as the Leapster for very young children and the Nintendo DS for older kids. They might also like to bring a personal listening device such as an MP3 player. You can even bring a netbook or a notebook computer along with Internet access to let them surf the Internet or play computer games while you are traveling. The best strategy might be to bring many different things for the children to do to keep them occupied.
Bring food and drinks
Many kids are always hungry. You will want to bring some delicious snacks for them to eat while they are on the trip. You can get some fun foods that are a treat for them such as little boxes of cereal. Try to bring food that isn’t too messy and is less likely to spill.
Play games
There are different road games that you can play with the kids while you are traveling. For instance, you and the children can look outside for a sign or something else that has the letter A, then B, then C and so forth. The person who finds all of the letters of the alphabet first wins. There are many other road games to try.
Follow safety tips
You will have enough to worry about with your children so you want to minimize the risks to your own safety. You might want to avoid bringing a lot of cash or expensive looking jewelry on the Greyhound bus, or at least not show it. If you stop at a rest stop and need to be back by a certain time make sure that you give yourself plenty of time. Keep your eyes on your children at all times.
Traveling on a Greyhound bus with kids can be a challenge, but if you are prepared you can do it. Consider the above tips for accomplishing this.
