Babys first Haircut
(430 Words)
There is no one time that is the magic age for taking your toddler for his or her first haircut. Timing will depend on his or her hair, your preferences and other factors. Consider each of the following points when deciding when to take this special milestone.
Can he or she see?
Many toddlers have hair that grows straight over their eyes; they are not yet old enough to keep it tucked behind their ears. If your toddler’s hair is impeding his or her vision, then it is clearly time for a haircut.
Is it too hot?
Many people choose to get their toddlers haircuts because of the weather. If it is the summer and your toddler boy is always sweating, then you might want to get him a shorter haircut. On the other hand, you might want him to have some hair to protect his head from getting sunburns. Consider the weather and comfort level.
Does your boy look like a girl?
Many parents of sons love to watch their baby’s hair grow in. It might seem sad to cut it, and they may let it grow and grow and grow. Suddenly, everyone is telling you that you have a beautiful daughter, and that might be the point that you should get your son a haircut.
Can your toddler sit still for it?
It will be problematic, and even dangerous, for a toddler to be thrashing around while the hairdresser is cutting his or her hair with a pair of sharp scissors. You may want to wait to take your toddler for a haircut until he or she is mature enough to sit still. Obviously, most toddlers cannot sit completely still, but he or she should at least be able to be somewhat calm to avoid danger. To help with this problem, you can also go to a place that is specifically made for children such as Cartoon Cuts. These places have televisions set up for the children, as well as seats with seat belt, that can help keep the children protected. They also do kids’ haircuts all day and may be more accustomed to dealing with a moving child.
Much of the decision about when to get your toddler his or her first haircut depends on the styles you like for children. Many young girls like to wear their hair long, so you should take into account your toddler’s wishes as well. He or she may also want to get a haircut similar to mom’s or dad’s. Consider all of the factors above when choosing the right time.
