Bulletin Board Ideas for Open House
Open house is a great chance for parents to meet their children’s teachers and become more familiar with the school. You may want to put up a bulletin board for this special occasion. There are many different things that you can put on such a board, including the following.
Lists of the subjects that will be covered in class
The parents might wonder what exactly is going to be taught in class. You might already have an outline of the basics of the year. You may have a textbook with that in it or a curriculum. This might be a great thing to put on the bulletin board so that the parents will know exactly what their children will master when they come home.
Examples of work/projects the students will be working on
You might want to give them some examples of how the children will learn. For instance, if you always have the students make a book report and you have an example that you use to show off in class, then you can post that up there. You can also post examples of worksheets they will use or tests they might see so that the parents can understand what their children will be doing. You can show work that was done by students in prior classes. You can outline a syllabus if you already have one. You can also talk about any field trips that the students may go on.
Information about the teachers/staff/school
The parents might be interested in general information about the teachers, staff and school. You can put up photographs and biographies of the different teachers, explaining their area of expertise. You can also include the support staff. You can put in school specifics like hours, a calendar and so forth. You can also write down general knowledge that they should know such as the attendance policy, discipline policy, special school events, educational philosophy, etc. You can also talk about opportunities for the parents to get involved such as with the parent teacher association or ways that the parents can volunteer in their child’s classroom.
A bulletin board does not have to just contain one of the above items. Instead you can use it to display several of the ideas above. Make sure that it is easy to read and does not contain so much information that it is overwhelming. With planning and effort, you can make a great bulletin board for open house.
