You may lose water weight but not real fat weight. Some of the supplements will seem like they are working because they might help you lose water weight. This is not weight that will stay off, however, because you are not actually losing fat. One side effect of using supplements is that the weight will come off but then come right back on. Usually these are not sustainable diets.

Unfortunately, there are an unlimited amount of side effects because there are so many products out there. Unfortunately, many of these products are not tested for either efficacy or safety before they are put into the market. If they are classified as supplements but not really as drugs, they may end up being allowed to bypass the FDA and their strict safety guidelines. Unfortunately, a lot of these products are unsafe. Many times, they will not test one of these products to see if they are safe until after they actually start causing problems. By then it might be too late for people.
In the past, different types of supplements have been linked to many horrible side effects. Some have caused heart problems in otherwise healthy people. Some have made it more difficult when someone has had surgery. Others have even had fatal effects. The FDA and its careful processes are there for a reason.
Another side effect of dieting with supplements might be that you just do not lose the weight. Many of these pills are not going to be effective. Some of them may have root ingredients that have some promise but then they do not put enough of them in to actually do anything. Most of the time it is dieting and exercise that will help you shed those pounds. If there is a magic pill that can easily help someone shed a lot of pounds, it has not made its way to the general public. It is important to be aware of the risky side effects supplements to lose weight may cause.
